This does vary on where I am, and the graphic setting. I'll probably do the same thing with mine. I also take my wife's apart every 3 months, and use a can of air to blow the dust out. I would rather spend $30-$40 for a new fan and the time it takes to replace it if one starts to get noisy, then the cost of a new motherboard. When we are done, we make sure to set iStat Menu back to the default fan speed setting. My wife's older MBP does sound like a jet taking off if she sets hers to high. I make sure to use the medium fan speed setting when I start LOTRO, and will switch to the high fan speed setting if I am going to raid. This helps monitor many things for the mac, but also has a fan speed option. It's a personal preference.Ģ) I purchased iStat Menu's for my wife and I. There are also commercial products to raise the back of the MacBook Pro, that have little fans on them. A cooling fan could also help, but I feel they are usually overpriced, and not worth the Return on Investment. Two of these (four caps) raises the MBP rear and helps let the air radiate off in all directions. My wife took some water bottle caps, and did her crafting thingy to surround glue/attach two of them to each other, and put felt on both sides of them. I use to worry about the heat and still do enough to do the following:ġ) Raise the back of the MBP when playing. So you feel the heat much more than any other computer. The difference is the Aluminum case acts as a giant heat sink. However, comparing either of them to my Asus G73SW that I use to play on and just gave to my son, it doesn't run much hotter. We both play at 1440x900 resolution, and High Quality. I play on a MBP Retina, with the 1GB nVidia GT 650m. My wife plays on the Mid 2010 model, with the 512MB nVidia GT 330m. My wife and I both play on two different model of MBP's.
